CUSTOM IMPORTING
One of the most powerful features of Margin Master is the ability to import custom data files to use in the program. The program will import most common file formats CSV, TXT, TAB, and Excel XLS files. The basic requirement is that all import files must have a header row with descriptive names. This header row is what will be used to Map the columns of information to their destination field in Margin Master.
To begin processing the custom import file, simply place the file in the import directory – C:\MarginMaster by default, and proceed to the Import Data Screen. The file will be listed there waiting to be processed.
Clicking Process will start the Import Process. If Margin Master has never seen a file with the column headers in the file, it will ask what kind of file this is. You will want to select the Store Data File option.
Once you have made the selection, you will be asked to create a profile that can be used for future imports of the same data. In the future, if the program encounters a file with the same header row, it will assume it is the same type of data file, and will already know what type of file it is and how to map the columns.
To map the columns on the initial import you will need to change the column headings at the top that say “Do not Import”. When you click on the down arrow you will see a list of column heading names. Simply select the appropriate heading. Sku, should be Sku, description should be Desc., Cost should be Store Cost & the retail should be placed in one of the Comp columns. You will need to remember which Comp column you selected so you can add it to your view in Margin Master.
Clicking the Import button will begin the Import Process. Each record will be applied to the Margin Master database and the information will be updated to reflect the import file. Once this is processed you are ready to run Margin Master. You will need to change your view to add the Comp column that has your pricing. You will also want to change your view to “view non-ace/dib sku’s”.
